Agriculture is one of the world's most important industries, yet the most consequential decisions are still made with remarkably little data. On your typical high-value crop farm, decisions around pruning, thinning, spraying, irrigation, fertilization, disease management, and harvest are often based on hand samples representing just 0.01% of the crop.
Every year, hundreds of billions of dollars in crop value globally are lost as a result. Meanwhile, labor costs have doubled and crop input costs have tripled over the past two decades, putting increasing pressure on our farmers to produce more with less. We believe the only way forward is through precision.
Orchard was founded at Cornell University in 2022 to give our farmers the ability to understand every plant they grow, and the technology they need to farm better than ever before.
Our AI-powered camera systems mount to tractors and scan millions of trees, vines, and plants, capturing precise data on yield estimates, fruit size, crop health, disease, and more. We train state-of-the-art vision AI models that analyze every plant and determine exactly what interventions and treatments it needs. That intelligence flows into FruitScope OS, our farm-management software platform, where farmers can understand their crops and direct operations in the field. And within FruitScope, we've launched Canary AI, the world's first AI Farmer, which reasons across all a farm's data to give optimal recommendations and help our farmers make the best decisions.
Today, Orchard's technology is trusted by some of America's largest farms, servicing tens of thousands of acres commercially across apples, grapes, cherries, blueberries, tree nuts, citrus, and more. Our farmers use Orchard to produce higher-quality crops while reducing chemical use and operating costs, farming more profitably and sustainably than ever before.
